Tips On How to Get Rid of Nasty Cockroaches

If you happen to see a roach flying around the house, it means that there are a myriad of them hiding in the shady spots of the home. The initial reaction of most people is to kill the single roach the see yet they do not realize that they are up against thousands of roaches right inside the kitchen drawer. Well, the best way to begin annihilating the roaches in your home is by killing the ones that you see, usually by slapping them down with a slipper. But we all know that this is not enough to get rid of the pest, so in order to carry out bands of roaches found in your house, you can do the following procedures:

Scatter boric acid in the places where you have seen roaches hanging out. Boric acid is an effective poison against pests when ingested, particularly when the roaches are doing their daily grooming routine. Sprinkle the acid in the moist, dark areas of the house such as the sink drawers, laundry areas and inner cupboards, and around the refrigerator, as these are the places where roaches usually thrive. Just be alert though, as boric acid is lethal to humans and other animals as well. It is better not to use it when kids and pets are around.

If you don’t have boric acid, you can also concoct your own insecticide by mixing baking soda and powdered sugar. This serves as mock bait for the roaches. Place the mixture in a dish near the places where the cockroaches usually travel, and when they approach and taste it, they get poisoned.

One effective scent that is used to ward off roaches is bay leaves. You can keep the roaches out of your house by placing bay leaves in the different areas of the house. You can also squash the bay leaves and burn them in a pot like citronella or incense toward the roaches off your humble abode. Bay leaves are good to use because they do not have chemical properties which can be harmful to children.

Do not water the cockroaches. They can live for several months without food, as long as they have a steady supply of water. It is important not to leave stagnant water particularly in the sink, as well as dirty dishes and laundry basins. One reason why roaches thrive in between pipelines is not just because the area is dark and moist, but because the leaks in the pipes can provide them the water they need to stay alive, so better check the plumbing. Also see if the refrigerator and the air conditioning units function correctly and that their water excess is appropriately eliminated. Wipe the sink dry after using, as well as the bathtub and the flooring tiles.

You can however trap cockroaches using water jars. Lure the roaches by placing a water jar next to the wall where they hang out. Place a bait on the jar so they’d be more enticed to come in, and once they’re in it’s time to seal the jar so they won’t be capable to run off.

Practice cleanliness. Roaches are usually found in homes that dirty and unsanitary. They also thrive in places left by other roaches. What you can do then is to clean all places with detergent or disinfectant so that the area can deter their return. Concrete floors can be scrubbed with bleach and water, while other susceptible areas can be cleansed with antibacterial soaps and solutions.

USING INSECTICIDES – For severe cockroach infestations, insecticides may be the only way.

There are cases where the infestation of cockroaches have grown severe it can no longer be treated with simple solutions such as the ones mentioned above. Thus you have another option: use insecticides. There are a lot of insecticides made to eliminate roaches from the house, and they are fast and effective in doing the job. Gel and bait insecticides take effect in as fast as 1-2 days, and they do not have foul odor, making them safe to use in areas where children and pets hang around. Glue traps meanwhile are also effective to use in places that are hard to reach, as well as those where roaches do their resting activities. But these insecticides can only work on small groups of roaches, so if you want a higher death toll, you may opt for sprays, foggers, crack and crevice aerosols and dusting powder.

When using pesticides, it is not worthy to spend on those found in home improvement stores since they are of low, weak quality. Try to get something from the web, such as Cypermethrin, or brands like Demon WP. This kind of pesticide kill or sorts of bugs and insects and even provide residual effect for as long as three months. Spray the pesticide in all parts of the house mainly those infested by roaches. The roaches are sure dead, along with other bugs found in the house.
